Data Quality Reporting

Data Quality Monitoring as part of a Data Governance program

Setting up a Data Governance program requires establishing roles, responsibilities, objectives and KPIs, including Data Quality measures. As with other processes, the quality of the data cannot be managed without measuring it. In order to fulfill their objectives, members of the Data Governance team need a set of reports, containing structured information on the quality of their respective sets of data. Data Stewards need more detailed information, while the Data Quality Manager or members of a Data Governance committee will only need high-level summary information. Selected business users might at the same time be interested in the quality of particular data entity or a single attribute, for example "City" or a ZIP code.

Providing such structured and up-to-date information is a task for Data Quality reporting and Monitoring processes and tools.

Data Quality Reporting Technology

We suggest using Ataccama DQC Reporting technology for its flexibility, proven performance and seamless integration with data cleansing processes. Ataccama DQC Reporting is the analytical extension of the core Ataccama DQC engine and business modules. It provides users with access to predefined templates for data quality reports and KPIs in many formats, including HTML, PDF and MS Office formats (XLS, DOC, and PPT). Open interfaces allow easy integration into existing intranets or company-wide reporting portals. Advanced users and administrators can modify existing reports or define completely new reports and data quality measures.

Report configuration and customization

The following functions allow centralized configuration and administration of system parameters:

• Definition of observed information entities (both on detailed and compound levels - e.g. data attributes such as customer Name, data entity Customer, information entity Customer and its Contracts)
• Definition of data quality indicators for particular entities
• Definition of aggregated DQ indicators
• The definitions mentioned above are supported by the set of templates both for detail and aggregated KDQIs (Key Data Quality Indicator). Sample KDQIs support data quality management according to the methodology TIQM, ISO and Six Sigma

As part of the project, a basic set of Data Quality reports will be delivered, covering the most common Data Quality Indicators for the entities in scope - Customer and Address. Once the Data Governance program and Data Quality responsibilities are established, users can define their own KPIs and reports using the Ataccama DQC Reporting configuration functionality.
